Lagos backs AFRIDEX: security rests on technology, coordination and trust
Speaking for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat set out how much of its own security Lagos pays for and why the threats call for partners.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, welcomed AFRIDEX to Lagos on behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. As PM News reported, he described security as the first condition for economic prosperity and said Lagos is committed to maritime security, local manufacturing and new technology.
“Each year, the Lagos State Governor funds over half of the security operations carried out in Lagos and we have built partnerships with private sectors which the federal government and other states have since adopted,” he said, as reported by The Guardian.
The state is expanding its closed-circuit television network, which grew “from 480 in 2025 to about 780 in 2026, with the target of 3000”, he said, “because we have learnt that modern security rests on technology, coordination and public trust as much as personnel”. The threats, he added, are increasingly transnational, and the response must be too.
