The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd.), said at the opening that Nigeria needed an exhibition of its own: “This is a win-win for Nigeria. We must produce what we need. We have over 66 countries here and this shows that international communities acknowledge the direction Nigeria is going and they also want to tap into the experience we have.” (The Guardian)

He set a clear aim for the four days: “I want at the end of this event, agreements will be signed. And probably in the next one year, we'll have Nigeria working with each company that is here represented today in the production of military hardware for our countries.” He added: “Nigeria has the population, has the land mass, and has the reach. And Africa has the requirements for this. So anybody who invests in Nigeria is investing wisely.” (The Sun)

After the opening ceremony, Global Upfront reported, the Minister toured exhibition stands from several countries and held a meeting with the United States delegation.
